Meet the Neopets Metaverse Team: Ken — Game Development Lead
Q: Can you introduce yourself to the community? Tell us about your role and what you do.
Hello. My name is Ken, the game development lead for Neopets Metaverse. My job generally covers techy stuff involving game features and system architecture (both server and client-side).
Q: Can you tell us about your background and what brought you to Neopets?
I’ve spent over ten years in game development working on titles such as Gameone’s The Ravages of Time Online, an MMO for pc. I also worked on Madhead’s Tower of Saviors, a successful Match-3 RPG for mobile with over 20m user downloads, and have won many awards in Taiwan (Bahamut forum).
Q: What do you find exciting about the Metaverse?
Community is one of the most exciting features of web3. People who join the metaverse will have a voice in gaming’s future by helping create together something they genuinely want. To be able to partake in the development process and have their opinions heard will undoubtedly make the players feel happy and appreciated.
Q: What are you looking forward to the most at Neopets Metaverse?
Having emphasized the importance of community, I say the Neohome truly reflects the essence of community engagement. It is where you can interact with your Neopets and your friends’ Neopets and connect with other Neopets Metaverse players through item ownership and trading. I’m looking forward to having this implemented.
Q: What advice would you give to someone that would be interested in working in the metaverse?
Be creative, think outside the box, and feel free to unleash your ideas. It’s fine to take inspiration here and there but don’t just go blatantly copying systems and features from other games.
Q: What’s your favorite video game of all time?
If I had to choose, I guess it would be GTA.
Q: How do you like to spend your free time?
I like watching movies, and tech videos, especially those that involve software and hardware.
Q: Are you a dog person or a cat person?
Cat person, without a doubt. I adore their chill yet cuddly personalities.
Q: Neopets Metaverse is a global project with a multinational team; tell us where you’re from and what part of the globe are you in?
I’m currently based in Hong Kong.
