Meet the Neopets Metaverse Team: Eric— 3D Artist
Q: Can you introduce yourself to the community? Tell us about your role and what you do.
Hi. I’m Eric. Lovely to meet you. I’m a passionate 3D artist and the 3D Team Lead for the Neopets Metaverse project. As an artist, it is my role and honor to bring to life the beloved characters and signature locations of Neopets into Web3.
Q: Can you tell us about your background and what brought you to Neopets?
I have over 20 years of experience in the creative industry. I’ve worked for movies, TV series, mobile games, console games, and the MMO space. Some notable projects I was involved in include Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. I specialize in animation, modeling, rigging, and texturing. When I joined the Neopets team, I was hyped to be part of a globally renowned project while passing on my knowledge to younger 3D artists.
Q: What do you find exciting about the Metaverse?
As much as I love art, Web3’s technological advantages significantly pique my interest with its evolving ecosystem offering a single login mechanism across platforms that is secure, user-friendly, and anonymous. Speaking of anonymity, it prevents you from providing personally identifiable information, which many platforms require when creating an account or sending payments. Thus, you can take full control of your digital identity and prevent other entities from altering your transactions. I say all this with absolute belief that Web3 will direct our future.
Q: What are you looking forward to the most at Neopets Metaverse?
Can’t wait for us to introduce new gameplay elements. We are currently developing iterations to our lovable Neopets species, maps, and characters to capture the nostalgia while adding fresh twists to the classic game. If I can get hyped knowing all this information already, I can only imagine our players’ excitement right now!
Q: What advice would you give to someone that would be interested in working in the metaverse?
The Metaverse is a young and growing industry. Like many others have said, be open-minded and creative. It would also help to balance life and work since this space can get extremely demanding.
Q: Neopets Metaverse is a global project with a multinational team; tell us where you’re from and what part of the globe are you in?
I was born, raised, and currently residing in Hong Kong.
