Meet the Neopets Metaverse Team: Edric— Chief Product Officer
Q: Could you please introduce yourself to the community? Tell us about your role and what you do?
Howdy Neopians! My name is Edric. Nice to meet ya! I’m the Chief Product Officer at Neopets Metaverse, leading the game and blockchain development strategy and direction.
Q: Can you tell us about your background and what brought you to Neopets?
The virtual 3D world has always fascinated me. When I was seven, I fell in love with video games upon visiting my cool uncle’s home. I still remember the first game I played called “Wolfenstein 3D”. The experience will forever be etched in my memory. After my bachelor’s degree, I started developing MMORPG games for pc in 2005. Since then, I have worked with various innovative technology in several companies, including CGI movie production and augmented reality startup, before finally landing my current position in NeopetsMeta.
Q: What do you find exciting about the Metaverse?
GameFi brings such a significant impact on the gaming industry. It changes the nature, design, development process, and funding. Unlike traditional games that take 1–2 years to complete, building one in GameFi allows companies to deploy features and receive community input at an earlier stage.
On the other hand, I have this crazy belief that the Metaverse can connect multiple games (universe) someday. Like, imagine using an NFT for different games or even in real life. Now that’s interesting!
Q: What are you looking forward to most here at Neopets Metaverse?
I’m super thrilled about NeopetsMeta’s Public Beta because we’ll be able to collect more feedback from a larger community and improve the game even further.
Q: What advice would you give to someone that would be interested in working in the metaverse?
Everything seems to move in a flash in Web 3. Take DeFi, for example. It only takes a year to replicate traditional finance stuff like liquidity lending. That said, you have to be agile and energetic to thrive in this space.
Q: What’s your favorite video game of all time?
My favorite video game is FIFA. As a hardcore football fan, especially of Liverpool FC, I enjoy scrimmaging with friends or going against other online. #YNWA
Q: How do you like to spend your free time?
Reading books and Web3 news. Playing chess also helps clear my mind.
Q: Are you a dog person or a cat person?
I’m a cat person. Although my cat destroyed all of my plants and broke some glass, I still love her so much, lol. Tough love, eh.
Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
To become a cat, because it’d be interesting to tread the world from a cat’s perspective.
Q: Neopets Metaverse is a global project with a multinational team, tell us where you’re from and what part of the globe are you in?
I was born and raised in Hong Kong, although I’m now currently based in the United Kingdom.
